4 Tips To Minimize Crow’s Feet

Wrinkles at the corner of your eyes are often referred to as crow’s feet. They can start as early as your mid-20s, and are often caused by UV exposure, the inherent thin nature of the skin around the eyes, and a lack of oil glands in this area.

Also called laugh lines, crow’s feet are an indication of how hard the skin around your eyes works, and how important it is to care for this delicate part of your face.

Whether you are nearly 25, pushing 75, or are somewhere in between, here is some encouraging news: there are several things you can try to help minimize the appearance of these common wrinkles.

Tip 1: Shield Your Eyes

Because crow’s feet are often caused by the damaging rays of the sun, wearing sunscreen and sunglasses is a great place to start in the battle against fine lines. Use a moisturizer that contains sunscreen, and/or use a regular sunscreen with a high SPF factor. Be careful when applying it to your delicate skin around your peepers and make an effort not to get any in your eyes.

In addition, invest in a great-looking pair of sunglasses that offer UV protection; Bustle lists eight brands of shades that not only look stylish, but they will help protect your eyes by blocking harmful UV rays.

Tip 2: Harness the Power of Peptides

Peptides are small versions of proteins that have been found to have an anti-aging effect; this makes them a wise addition to skincare creams. To really combat crow’s feet, consider using a deep moisturizing eye cream with peptides—for example, Redefine Multi-Function Eye Cream from Rodan + Fields.

Infused with plenty of potent peptides, it is formulated with the delicate skin around the eyes in mind, and may visibly improve signs of aging in the eye area, including fine lines and crow’s feet.

Tip 3: Help Your Skin Relax

There are a number of everyday habits that most of us do without thinking much about them—all of which can stretch out the skin and cause it to want to develop crow’s feet and fine lines. For instance, sleeping on your side or stomach can stress out the skin near your eyes, as can resting the top of your head on your hands. Also, make a conscious effort not to frown, as this can also cause lines to form around your eyes.

Tip 4: Try a Homemade Mask with Common Ingredients

Chances are good you already have ingredients in your fridge and pantry that you can combine to make an all-natural face mask that will nourish and hydrate the skin.

For instance, Taste of Home suggests mixing two tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt with one teaspoon of honey. Apply the mixture to your face with gentle circular motions and leave it on your skin for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water and then apply sunscreen and makeup as usual.

The yogurt and honey are both hydrating and soothing ingredients that can plump up the skin around your eyes and reduce the appearance of those pesky crow’s feet.

Say Farewell to Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are common, but they do not have to be inevitable. By taking steps every day to protect your face and eyes from the sun, moisturize with a peptide-rich skincare product, break yourself of some habits that can stress out your skin, and give a homemade mask a try, the delicate skin around your eyes should look younger, healthier and less lined.
