7 Quick Beauty Pick-Me-Ups

Getting older is a blessing. It means we’re privileged enough to deepen our relationships, gain more wisdom, and best of all, feel more comfortable in our own skin. But as we age, we also want to look and feel our best. And sometimes, when we look well-rested, fresh-faced, and happy, it can make us feel that way, too. Here are a few simple, easy beauty pick-me-ups can go a long way in helping you look more refreshed and well-rested. Here are seven products I’m a huge fan of for looking fresh-faced and more youthful all day long.
1. Airbrush Concealer
Under eye concealer gives the face an immediate pick-me-up. An illuminating concealer will reflect light off dark circles and a peach-toned concealer will correct any discoloration. Looking well slept has never been so easy. With ages ranging from 18 to 49 in the Get Healthy U office, the Clinique Airbrush Concealer is a great brand that has come up in conversation more than once!
2. Nude “Waterline” Eyeliner
Similar to under eye concealer, using a nude eyeliner for your “waterline”—which is where your lower lid meets your lower eyelashes—will remove any telltale redness around your eyes that the concealer can’t reach. It’s important to get the waterproof formula of whichever eyeliner you choose so it stays in place all day. A great drugstore option is the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner.
3. Eyelash Curlers
The key to looking awake and wide-eyed is in the lashes. Whether you decide to apply mascara or not, having curled lashes makes a huge difference to any look. A “cult favorite” is the Kevyn Aucoin The Eyelash Curler, but any brand will do.
4. Blush
As we all brave the cold winter ahead, our once sun-kissed skin starts to dim and turn a bit lackluster. The key to adding youthful life back into your face is a pinch of color on your cheeks. You can be as subtle or as bold as you’d like. For great lasting power and a wide range of colors, we recommend checking out the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blushes.
5. Tinted Lip Balm
To stay moisturized but put together all day, opt for a tinted lip balm instead of a matte lipstick. It gives your lips the added moisture they need to look more youthful and full. I like wearing a sheer berry color in Minnesota’s colder months! For intense hydration and sun protection, a great option to try is the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15. I always have one floating around in my gym bag and purse!
6.  A Good Moisturizer
Okay, so not to bore you with my whole skin story, but a few years ago I thought I had Rosacea and was experiencing adult acne. After experimenting with what seemed like every cream on the market and trying to tweak my diet, I became discouraged. As all discouraged people do, we turn to Google for help. I stumbled upon this brand, ZenMed, and spent hours reading reviews on their products. I zeroed in on the Support Serum but thought it was too cheap to be effective. Deciding to order it on blind faith and two years later—I’m still using it every night. I am not one to tell you something changed my life overnight but I’m here to tell you that it did change my skin overnight. It is the product that has been my answer to clear skin for several years now.
7.  Supplements
As we age, our skin doesn’t bounce back as it once did. A few years ago I started taking Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen supplements by NeoCell. The Hyaluronic Acid boosts my skin with hydration as it can hold 1,000 times its weight in water and also helps cell turnover, both of which keep wrinkles at bay. The Super Collagen +C supplement does many things, but for my skin it’s especially good at reviving elasticity. In addition, it does things like strengthen nail beds, thicken fine hair, support bone matrix and improve circulation. Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen are two resources that naturally decrease in the body as we age, which is why taking supplements of them helps to replenish and make up for lost production. I think these, along with my Support Serum, have been my answer for long term clear skin. Thank you, Google!
