The 50-year-old actor reposted an Instagram from Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld on his account last night, which shows his chiseled physique next to a comic book illustration of his bulked-up character Cable. And aside from a few obvious comic book features, Brolin looks arguably more in shape than his Deadpool part.

Kudos to both him and his mighty trainer @justindlovato for the amazing work and effort in completing this amazeballs transformation. Seriously, one day I will train with Justin. No. That’s not true. I’m likely to never do that. It looks like so much hard work. But I’d like to think I would. Or maybe one of my kids can and I can watch. “The mighty Brolin, AKA The Chisel, went all in on practical FX for Deadpool 2 and endured all that pain for gains,” Liefeld wrote in his caption. He continued to give a shout-out to Brolin’s trainer, Justin Lovato, and called Brolin’s gains an “amazeballs transformation.”

He wasn’t the only one who thought so either. Commenters sounded off on the side-by-side comparison. “JACKED,” one wrote, while another asked the important lifting questions we all want to know:
“Impressive! How much were you deadlifting, Josh? I’m getting older and I’m getting more and more concerned about hernias, etc.”
Brolin responded and said to skip the heavy weights. “Don’t lift heavy,” he wrote. “I slowly worked up and never ended up lifting really heavy. Slower reps and a squeeze.”

It’s smart advice and shows that, despite Brolin’s hilarious mock-lifting posts on social media, he’s clearly dedicated when it comes to getting in shape for the role.
“Josh came ready to put in the work,” his trainer told Men’s Journal last year. “For six weeks straight we were getting into the gym for at least three hours a day.”
