Leading up to the release of Deadpool 2, Josh Brolin just proved how ripped he got to play Cable in the new film, which hits theaters this month.
Josh Brolin on Playing Thanos, Cable, and Which Villain Would Win in a Fight
The 50-year-old actor reposted an Instagram from Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld on his account last night, which shows his chiseled physique next to a comic book illustration of his bulked-up character Cable. And aside from a few obvious comic book features, Brolin looks arguably more in shape than his Deadpool part.

Kudos to both him and his mighty trainer @justindlovato for the amazing work and effort in completing this amazeballs transformation. Seriously, one day I will train with Justin. No. Thatâs not true. Iâm likely to never do that. It looks like so much hard work. But Iâd like to think I would. Or maybe one of my kids can and I can watch. Ok, well, hats off to The Brolinator! #cableswole #marvel #deadpool #xforce @iambuilt

âThe mighty Brolin, AKA The Chisel, went all in on practical FX for Deadpool 2 and endured all that pain for gains,â Liefeld wrote in his caption. He continued to give a shout-out to Brolinâs trainer, Justin Lovato, and called Brolinâs gains an âamazeballs transformation.â
Change Your Reps, Build Muscle Faster
He wasnât the only one who thought so either. Commenters sounded off on the side-by-side comparison. âJACKED,â one wrote, while another asked the important lifting questions we all want to know:
âImpressive! How much were you deadlifting, Josh? Iâm getting older and Iâm getting more and more concerned about hernias, etc.â
Brolin responded and said to skip the heavy weights. âDonât lift heavy,â he wrote. âI slowly worked up and never ended up lifting really heavy. Slower reps and a squeeze.â
How Ryan Reynolds Got His Abs for âDeadpool 2â
Itâs smart advice and shows that, despite Brolinâs hilarious mock-lifting posts on social media, heâs clearly dedicated when it comes to getting in shape for the role.
âJosh came ready to put in the work,â his trainer told Menâs Journal last year. âFor six weeks straight we were getting into the gym for at least three hours a day.â
If you want to get jacked like Brolin, you can try his workoutâif you can get past the warm-up.
